AFL trades 2015: Luke Parker’s manager shoots down trade rumour

THE trade rumour mill is running at full speed and the hottest whisper is that Melbourne is throwing a huge offer at Sydney’s Luke Parker. Is there anything in it?

HAS Melbourne inquired about Sydney’s Luke Parker? Yes.

But so has everyone else.

With the trade period just days away the AFL rumour mill is running hot, and a whisper has swept AFL circles that the Demons are preparing a huge offer to poach Parker from the Swans.

But the 2014 best-and-fairest winner has no plans to leave, according to his manager Ned Guy.

“At the moment Luke’s not interested in going anywhere else,” he told Trade Radio.

“Once that rumour went around last week I don’t think there was a club I didn’t hear from.”

One of the recruiters to pick up the phone and dial Guy’s number was Melbourne’s Todd Viney. According to Guy, the tone of the conversation was essentially, ‘We are rumoured to be having a crack at him so I may as well’.

But bad news, Demon fans. Parker is contracted until the end of next year and the Swans have already put an offer for an extension in front of him.

“Luke has gone away, he’s going to have a good hard think about it but all signs point to him committing long-term to the Swans,” Guy said.

He said a deal could be done before Christmas, but a promise of future captaincy wasn’t part of Sydney’s offer.

“I think he does have aspirations to lead the club one day but they have pretty good leaders at the club at the moment that he’s happy to learn from.”

Parker, 22, grew up in Langwarrin in Melbourne’s southeast and has played 101 games since being recruited with pick 40 in the 2010 draft.
