The competition’s two most dominant ruckmen Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn were again hard to overlook for best on ground.

Not for the first time, Grundy was the difference in Collingwood’s win over Essendon, while Gawn nearly carried Melbourne over the line against North Melbourne with the highest ranking points score of the year.

Meanwhile, ball magnet and Brownlow Medal contender Lachie Neale had 51 disposals, but Brisbane Lions went down against Richmond.
