Super Footy Podcast Round 20: Melbourne must get Michael Hurley, Brisbane’s woe, Bartel’s spanner in the works

COULD Michael Hurley be the last piece of the puzzle for Melbourne? Jon Anderson thinks so and he says the Demons should get him at all costs.

MELBOURNE must get Michael Hurley.

That’s the verdict of Herald Sun football writer Jon Anderson, who told the SuperFooty Podcast that the time was right for the Demons.

“They’re looking at Michael Hurley, don’t worry about that,” Anderson told Anthony Hudson and Mick Warner in the SuperFooty bunker.

“Tom McDonald is a really good key defender, but they need another one.”

Huddo said Hurley was no closer to making a decision than he was when he went on holidays with several of the banned Bombers last month.

“Talking to people from the Essendon camp, they were really counting on the time away with all the mates that that was going to be a real positive for him to come back and maybe he would say yes,” Huddo said.

“But my information within the last three or four days is that his mind hasn’t changed in terms of going back to Essendon.”

Ando said Hurley would do his due diligence before making a decision.

“Speaking to someone who knows him very well, Michael Hurley will go to the club he thinks is best prepared, best set up to win a premiership,” Ando said.

“He’s a very, very single minded young man who is no dill, and he’ll just go through everything possible to ensure, in his mind, he is going to the right place.”

The Pod boys agreed Justin Leppitsch was on borrowed time after Brisbane was belted yet again and he launched a huge attack on the AFL over it’s treatment of his club.

They floated the likes of Brett Ratten, Stuey Dew and maybe even Matthew Primus as a flyer to replace him at the Lions’ helm.

They also wondered if the talk of Jimmy Bartel’s future so far out from this year’s finals could throw a spanner in the works at Cat land.

Other topics on the Super Footy Pod agenda included:

Who is the best player in the AFL right now and who would you pick to build with?

Which two teams will fall out and which two teams will come in to the eight next season?

Is the pressure of Damien Hardwick and now back on Nathan Buckley?

Why is Port Adelaide so up-and-down?

Should the Swans be flag favourites?
