St Kilda has strengthened its bid to be an attraction to players from the bayside region by locking away one of its own for another four years.

Mitchito Owens, one of three Next Generation Academy players on the list, has committed to the club until at least the end of 2029.

Owens’ extension comes as the Saints have approached a selection of bayside products, including GWS Giant midfielder Finn Callaghan.

The Saints are also reportedly interested in bayside product Miles Bergman, who runs out of contract at Port Adelaide at the end of this season.

Owens’ signature follows those of Jack Higgins and Hunter Clark on Wednesday.

“I love this club. I’ve practically grown up here, and it’s a great feeling to know I’ll remain at Moorabbin for another four years,” Owens said.

“I live with some of my best mates, Windy (Marcus Windhager) and Nas (Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera), just around the corner, and I get to play footy for a living – I know how lucky I am to be in this position, and it’s not something I take for granted.

“My aim for the next four years is to repay the faith the club has shown in me and do everything I can to help us achieve the ultimate success.”

Owens, 21, has played 53 games, including every game in a breakout 2023.

Executive general manager of football David Misson has big hopes for Owens.

“Mitch is a well-loved member of our playing group, and we’re all really looking forward to seeing him continue to build on what’s already been a great start to his career,” Misson said.

“Mitch is dedicated to his craft and doing all he can to improve as quickly as possible.

“We see a bright future ahead for Mitch and are very glad it’ll be in Saints colours.“
