‘Show your face’: Saints star slams pub ‘altercation’ report

St Kilda has moved to correct reports its star players were dumped as a result of a “verbal altercation” during a bar incident.

Saints star Paddy Ryder has slammed a report he was involved in a verbal altercation with teammate Bradley Hill.

Both players missed the club’s Round 15 thumping at the hands of the Swans — the team’s third consecutive loss — and it was rumoured on Monday night the pair were dropped for disciplinary reasons.

The football club and now Ryder have moved to correct the report.

It was first reported on SEN radio the players were in a bar in Mordialloc, Melbourne, the day after their loss to Essendon before they were involved in an argument with fellow patrons. The report suggested the players left the venue after bouncers intervened.

The club has on Monday released a statement denying their was a verbal altercation.

The club also denied Hill and Ryder were left out of the 15 team as a result of the incident.

The club confirmed a third player was present during the incident. The club says no disciplinary action will be taken.

Ryder was managed for the game and Hill was listed as out due to personal reasons.

“Reports this evening stating that Paddy Ryder and Bradley Hill were not part of the Saints’ round 15 team due to disciplinary reasons are incorrect,” the club stated.

“Both Ryder and Hill, accompanied by another teammate, attended a venue in Mordialloc on the Saturday after our Round 14 match against Essendon on the Friday night,” the Saints said.

“Following a verbal exchange and disagreement with fellow patrons, all three left the venue without a fight ensuing.

“As previously communicated by the Club, this incident had no impact on selection, with Ryder missing due to ongoing management and Hill for personal reasons which meant that he was unable to train on both Monday and Tuesday and not in a condition to take his place in the side against the Swans.”

Ryder also called out the report in a social media post.

“I wasn’t involved in any altercation which has come through the media outlets tonight,” he tweeted.

“Just want to make that clear. Anyone have anything different to say please come forward, show your face and name yourself. I’ll wait. Good night all.”
