BRISBANE Lions defender Matt Maguire has played his final game for 2012.

Coach Michael Voss has confirmed the former Saint has been booked in for foot surgery next week and will miss the club's last outing against the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba.

He had hoped to have Maguire available for the last fortnight as the side chases a respectable 10 wins, starting with its Round 22 clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

However, the ligament problem which resurfaced last week against the Crows has not healed, leaving full-back Daniel Merrett partnered with Joel Patfull at centre half-back.

"When you look down the spine we've got a couple of good talls in Goose (Maguire) and Roj (Merrett) who strengthen your ability, so we will miss him," Voss said.

Brisbane has another defensive weapon, Josh Drummond, on the interchange bench to provide cover for a back six that last week blanketed the Crows in their shock win at the Gabba.
