Western Bulldogs chief executive Ameet Bains has backed newly appointed executive manager of football Sam Power to lead the club to a period of “sustained success”.

Power has been in a similar role for several months in an interim capacity since the departure of champion player and then administrator Chris Grant.

Power, 41, has previously worked in list management and recruiting since 2018.

“Sam has excelled in leading the men’s football program during this interim period with his trademark measured, thorough and diligent approach coming to the fore,” Bains said.

“Having been involved in the AFL industry in many different capacities over numerous years, Sam has the requisite skills and experience to strongly lead our men’s football program in its pursuit of sustained success.

“We are also blessed to have many wonderful people with extensive experience across all areas of our program and with Sam’s leadership qualities and already strong relationships, it will be a seamless transition.”

Matt Egan will assist Power by remaining in his role of general manager of football operations.

Power conceded the interim role had been a challenge over the pre-season but remained confident the Dogs were driven to contend in 2025.

“I’m excited to step into the role and continue to work with our amazing and talented people at the Western Bulldogs,” Power said.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity and extremely thankful for the support and guidance I’ve had from a number of people over the last seven years at the football club.

“Our football program is really well placed to succeed over the coming years through our experienced staff and driven playing group.

“With just under a month until round 1, our players and staff couldn’t be more excited for the season to begin at Marvel Stadium against the Kangaroos after a challenging but highly successful pre-season program.”
