Photographer breaks silence after Bailey Smith tirade at Geelong training
The photographer on the receiving end of Geelong star Bailey Smith’s reported foul-mouthed tirade has spoken about the ordeal.
The photographer on the receiving end of Bailey Smith’s reported foul-mouthed tirade during a Geelong training session on Wednesday has spoken about the “completely unwarranted” incident.
As first reported by Code Sports, Smith is reported to have become upset with a photographer who was taking photos as players trained at GMHBA Stadium ahead of their preliminary final.
Photos captured by News Corp photographer Alison Wynd showed Smith getting treatment on the sidelines during a session that was open to all media.

The photos show Smith sticking his middle finger up in the direction of the snapper as a member of the club’s medical staff appeared to give Smith’s back a massage ahead of the session.
The treatment required Smith to raise his guernsey above his midriff.
Code Sports’ Lauren Wood reported Smith then approached Wynd, who shoots for the Geelong Advertiser, as she was taking photos from a pocket of the stadium.
According to the report, Smith launched a “verbal tirade” towards Wynd and accused the photographer of “baiting him”.
When Wynd responded by saying she was just doing her job, Smith is reported to have said: “You do a f***ing s*** job”.
Wynd has since spoken to The Age about the altercation, claiming it was the second time Smith had sworn at her in the past month.
“I just thought it was a completely unwarranted reaction to the situation,” she told the masthead.
“Prior to that, I photographed Mitch Duncan on the same massage table getting worked on.
“Bailey got on the table, I photographed him and then he said it was a breach of his privacy, that I was trying to bait him, which is incorrect.
“It wasn’t as if I was photographing him with his girlfriend. It was an open media training session.”
Smith was also heard swearing in the direction of media onlookers as he was photographed walking off the ground last month.
That came after Smith was also photographed for the first time with Aussie fitness queen Tammy Hembrow during a date on the Gold Coast.
The former Western Bulldogs star and Hembrow have since confirmed they are dating.
As he arrived back in Melbourne after his Gold Coast jaunt, Smith was questioned by a photographer about the photos of him with Hembrow.
A video posted online showed Smith corrected a photographer who mispronounced Hembrow’s name.
“F***in’ hell, do your research,” he told the photographer.
When asked if the pair are together, Smith replied: “What do you want me to say?”
Smith will next be in action for the Cats when they take on Adelaide or Hawthorn at the MCG next weekend.
