RICHMOND veterans Brad Miller and Kelvin Moore have announced their retirements, effective immediately.

Moore, 28, made his comeback from a hip injury in Round 16 this year after almost two years out - and multiple operations.

He played three matches before being demoted from the senior side after the Tigers' heartbreaking loss to Carlton.

The defender has played the past two weeks with Coburg in the VFL but the toll on his body has become too much, according to the Richmond website.

Miller joined the Tigers as a rookie at the start of last season after playing 133 games at Melbourne.

He earned promotion from the rookie list in both seasons at Tigerland, playing 24 games and kicking 31 goals as a foil for full-forward Jack Riewoldt.

His last senior appearance was in Round 14 and he has struggled since with a calf injury.

“It is sad to see two fantastic individuals leave the Richmond Football Club, but we wish both Kel and Brad every success for the future,” Richmond football manager Craig Cameron said.

“Kel is one of the most popular players at the club, and has been through some tough times with injury. To return to the playing field after some doctors told him he never would, is a credit to his mental toughness and commitment to play with his teammates.

“Brad has made an undeniable impact in his two years at the club.

"His leadership qualities have shone, both on and off the field, and he has provided us with very good value as a key target while our young forwards have been developing.”

The retirements mean the Tigers have already made five changes to the senior list with Daniel Connors leaving the club after a sleeping pill controversy, Dean MacDonald taking indefinite leave on the eve of the season and rookie John Heslin returning to Ireland.
