Richmond star Tom Lynch to miss more games with another hamstring injury

Tom Lynch helped chair Dustin Martin off the MCG following his 300th game but scans on his hamstring showed he probably shouldn’t have.

Richmond forward Tom Lynch’s comeback lasted just a single game.

The club has confirmed he suffered another hamstring injury that will sideline him until round 18.

Lynch played his first game since round 4 in teammate Dustin Martin’s 300th game against Hawthorn at the MCG 10 days ago, even helping chair the Tiger superstar off the ground.

But he did that having left the match earlier than hoped after he felt general soreness late into his return game.

Scans have since revealed that Lynch suffered a minor hamstring strain to his right leg.

A hamstring issue on his right left prevented Lynch from playing until round 14 and despite having a long lay-off since the loss to the Hawks, he is still expected to miss another two weeks in a hammer blow for the Tigers who have won just two games this season.

Lynch also played just four games in 2023.

“Unfortunately, Tom did not pull up from the game well, so after further investigation on his right hamstring, we sent him for some scans, and they have come back and shown a minor strain,” Richmond football boss Tim Livingston said.

“Upon return to the club on Friday, Tom commenced straight back with the rehab group and is tracking along in his recovery for what we anticipate will be a return in the round 18 game against GWS.

“Tom is an important player for us and put in a lot of work to get himself back to full fitness, so it is disappointing he will miss some more football but also important that we get him right.”

The Tigers have one of the longest injury lists in the AFL, with 15 players sidelined with injury, including five who won’t return this season.
