While Neale was staying on the waters up in Brisbane as the Lions prepare to take on Collingwood in the Grand Final, other players let loose in hilarious scenes at the ceremony at Crowne in Melbourne.

Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston had a mixed night, collecting seven votes in a solid return while his Power teammates Zak Butters (27) and Conor Rozee (21) racked up the votes.

Not a contender to win the Brownlow, Houston celebrated after receiving three votes in Port Adelaide’s loss to Carlton in round 17.

As the cameras cut to him, Houston licked his champagne glass before wrapping his mouth around it and chugged the bubbly in one gulp.

The defender shared the hilarious footage of his antics to in Instagram story, joking: “Me after polling 0 again”.

Houston was also nominated for Goal of the Year for his matchwinning goal from outside 50 after the siren at the MCG against Essendon in round 16.

But he lost out to Brisbane Lions rookie Will Ashcroft, who picked up the gong for his acrobatic mid-air goal from the pocket early in the season.

Houston had an excellent year for Port Adelaide, earning his first All Australian selection on the half back flank in recognition of a breakout season.

Geelong spearhead Jeremy Cameron also had a laugh on social media after he started the vote count in red hot fashion before finishing on 13 votes.

Cameron joked on Instagram he “could win this”, before adding: “Sorry forgot I’m a forward!”.

Neale won his second Brownlow, adding this year’s medal to the one he claimed in dominant fashion in 2020.

But his unexpected win has been shrouded in controversy, with calls for an overhaul of the voting system after the umpires gave Neale a maximum three votes in a game where he had just 20 disposals and minimal impact on the game.
