How do juries decide a verdict?

A former AFL player who is fighting assault charges linked to his partner was previously investigated over allegations made by another woman.

But the WA Police Force confirmed to NCA NewsWire that despite a thorough investigation, former Fremantle Dockers player Scott Chisholm, 47, was not charged.

Mr Chisholm is accused of attacking his current partner in Attadale on January 20 and 26.

He will stand trial in Fremantle Magistrates Court on July 29 after he pleaded not guilty to criminal damage and two counts of aggravated assault causing bodily harm.

Police said Mr Chisholm previously faced separate allegations made by another woman, who was once engaged to the ex-footballer.
