‘Oh no’: Former AFL player’s daring tattoo bet backfires
Former Gold Coast and Carlton player Daniel Gorringe was left red-faced after an outlandish pre-match bet backfired in epic fashion.
Gold Coast pulled off a serious upset against Carlton on Saturday afternoon, surprising many AFL fans including a former player who was forced to eat his words.
The Suns rebounded from a 98-point thrashing at the hands of Melbourne last weekend, turning in a spirited performance to defeat the Blues by 19 points at Marvel Stadium.

They were powered by another best-on-ground performance by gun midfielder Touk Miller, who had 35 disposals and kicked two goals to press his case for All Australian selection.
But not everyone was pleased with the result, notably former AFL player Daniel Gorringe, who declared pre-game he would get a tattoo of Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew’s face somewhere on his body if the Suns won.
“If the Suns beat Carlton today I’ll get Stuart Dew’s face tattooed on me,” Gorringe daringly tweeted.

In hilarious scenes, Gorringe live tweeted the game, with his mood noticeably becoming increasingly tense as the match went on and the Suns closed in on a famous win.
Carlton led until midway through the third quarter, when the Suns surged and kicked ahead to claim a 11.10 (76) to 8.9 (57) victory.
While disappointed his bet spectacularly backfired, Gorringe said he will follow through on his word and get the tattoo of Dew’s face.
“I’m in shock, did not see this coming. I’m a man of my word,” he tweeted.
“One Stuart Dew face coming up tattooed on my body when we are out of lockdown. Lesson learnt today.
“Stuart Dew tattoos are actually in right now. Going to start a trend”
After the match had ended and Gorringe was resigned to his fate, his followers helpfully suggested parts of the body where he should get the tattoo and asked if he had booked in an appointment with a tattoo artist yet.
Many offered tongue-in-cheek ideas of where Dew’s face could be inked on Gorringe, including on his backside or completely covering his face.

Gorringe played 26 games across his AFL career, including 22 matches for Gold Coast and four with Carlton, giving him a vested interest in the game between both his former clubs.
Since retiring from AFL football at the end of the 2017 season, the 29-year-old has appeared on the reality television show Big Brother and co-hosts the popular List Cloggers podcast with former Blues teammate Dylan Buckley.
The shock result saw Gold Coast claim its seventh win of the season and Carlton’s faint finals hopes officially dashed.
