Collingwood star player Jordan de Goey has been fined $2075 for seven driving offences including speeding.

In sentencing remarks released on Monday, Melbourne magistrate Timothy Bourke said de Goey offered “no excuse” for his driving misbehaviour.

“He pleads guilty, which is indicative of remorse and insight into his offending,” he said.

The Magpie forward pleaded guilty to driving a motorcycle without rear P plates displayed, driving while suspended, using a mobile phone while being the driver of a stationary vehicle, failure to take licence to a specified place, driving at 93 km/h in a 80 km/h zone, driving without displaying P plates, and driving a prohibited vehicle for a probationary licence.

Magistrate Bourke did not suspend the 25-year-old’s licence and no conviction was recorded on any of the charges.

“The message for Mr de Goey and the community is that this is about road safety,” he said.

“If Mr de Goey drove safely in the first place, he would not had accumulated enough demerit points to see his licence suspended on 20 March 2019 for a three-month period.”

He warned that further breaches could result in a licence suspension.

The charges resulted from incidents on February 13 last year at Alexandra Avenue; July 6, 2019, on Punt Road at South Yarra; on April 4, 2019 at Hampton East; and on December 28 on the Nepean highway at Brighton East.

Police documents show de Goey told officers he didn’t know his licence was suspended when he was driving on July 9.

It had been suspended after an accumulation of demerit points.

He told police when asked about driving a prohibited vehicle without P plates on December 28: “It’s not even my car. I’m literally just dropping it off, there’s no other reason I’d have this car.”

De Goey had a separate charge of sexual assault withdrawn earlier this month.

He is on a salary of roughly $800,000 per season.
