Fremantle’s Michael Frederick just produced a front running contender for the AFL’s goal of the year.

In a tight contest against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium, the Dockers forward produced a moment of magic when his team needed it most.

Trailing by seven points deep into the fourth quarter, Frederick got out the back of his opponent Tom Stewart.

A ball kicked over the head of both men resulted in a foot race with Frederick comfortably getting to the ball first.

He then turned on the afterburners as he edged closer to the boundary line around 35 metres out from goal.

With only one real option ahead of him he took aim at the goals and to the disbelief of every Geelong fan in attendance and footy fans watching on, the ball sailed straight through the middle of the goals.

“Frederick with one of the goals of the season,” Mark Howard said on Fox Footy.

Bet365 wrote: “WOW! Michael Frederick with a goal of the year contender! That was special.”

Fans watching the game unfold couldn’t believe what they’d just seen unfold from deep in the tricky pocket at Geelong’s stadium.

The goal fuelled the Dockers with Lachie Schultz goaling shortly after to retake the lead.

Geelong tried desperately but they couldn’t break through Fremantle’s defenders with the siren sounding and handing the visiting Fremantle a 10.11 (71) to 9.10 (64) victory.

The loss makes it two in a row for the Cats and puts them in serious risk of missing out on finals action.

Their final four games will see them take on second placed Port Adelaide, top of the ladder Collingwood and two teams fighting for finals action in St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs.
