Melbourne puts end-of-season timeframe on Paul Roos coaching successor

MELBOURNE are hoping to have a successor in place for coach Paul Roos, whose contract expires next year, before the end of this AFL season.

MELBOURNE are hoping to have a successor in place for coach Paul Roos before the end of this AFL season.

Sydney's 2005 premiership coach Roos has signed with the struggling Demons for two years in a deal that expires in late 2015.

The 50-year-old, who stepped down as Sydney coach in 2010, has an option of a third season at Melbourne in 2016.

Paul Roos is only signed until the end of next year, with a 2016 option.

“I don't want to put pressure on Roosy or start getting into some public debate about will he be here for two or three years,” Melbourne chief executive Peter Jackson said.

“I just want him to be really happy about the decision he's made coming to work each day and knowing he's done the right thing.

“If we do that for most of this year I think the rest will take care of itself.”

The Demons are yet to appoint a senior assistant coach and future senior coach, having unsuccessfully chased Stuart Dew who re-signed with the Swans as an assistant to John Longmire.

“We would want to understand who's in that role towards the end of this football season, absolutely,” Jackson said.
