Melbourne keep Mitch Clark on ice as he battles a foot injury

MELBOURNE forward Mitch Clark is unlikely to be ready for Round 1 as he continues to battle a Lisfranc tear in his right foot.

MELBOURNE forward Mitch Clark is unlikely to be ready for Round 1 as he continues to battle a Lisfranc tear in his right foot.

Clark, who missed the second half of last season, is still in rehab running and took no part in yesterday's intra-club match.

There were whispers yesterday that the influential power forward may not be ready to resume until Round 6, but that would appear to be the worst-case scenario.

Demons football manager Josh Mahoney said the club couldn't say when Clark would be available.

"With this type of injury you take a step forward and then you wait to see how he handles it ... We're not going to rush him," he said.
