AFL boss Andrew Demetriou has confirmed the league will turn its supplements blowtorch from Essendon to Melbourne.

With the six-month Bombers probe finally over and groundbreaking penalties slapped on the club, Demetriou has warned the Demons are next in the gun.

In April, Melbourne Football Club became embroiled in the Essendon crisis after text messages between former Bombers sports scientist Steven Dank and club doctor Dan Bates were revealed.

The focus on Essendon pushed Melbourne into the background - but after the league's historic sanctioning on Tuesday night Demetriou confirmed the AFL's integrity unit is now chasing the Demons.

"Yes, that's the intention of our investigators," Demetriou told the press conference.

But on Adelaide's FIVEaa last night, Demetriou gave an odd response to a series of questions about investigations likely to follow.

When asked if he believed Essendon was the only club pushing - and breaking - boundaries, he said: "Absolutely we are, given the thorough nature of our audit that we did immediately after the ACC (Australian Crime Commission) report and also what's happened in this ongoing investigation,'' he said.

"And also we know that there was one individual who worked at this club who hasn't worked at other clubs."

But when asked if that meant Melbourne was in the clear, he promised investigators would scour the club - already reeling from $500,000 in fines early this year for charges related to suspected tanking.

"The investigators at our end will now turn their mind to what if anything happened at Melbourne and I'll wait to hear what Andrew Dillon and our general counsel say about that."
