MELBOURNE is confident Paul Roos will have a role with the Demons when his coaching contract ends next year.

Roos will be replaced by coach-in-waiting Simon Goodwin at the end of 2016, but Demons chief executive Peter Jackson said he believed Roos would want to stay involved with the club in some capacity.

“Roosy and I have had an earlier conversation where he’ll be around the club in some form, I hope,” Jackson told 3AW.

“I think he would want to be. I think he’s not just going to come in and walk away, I think there’ll be a role for him to play.

“He’s committed and passionate about the club.

“I feel a similar way. Whatever I do and whenever I do it, you start something you want to be involved in some way. Leigh (Matthews) is doing it now in Brisbane.”

Jackson bristled at suggestions Roos will hand over to Goodwin a year earlier.

“Why would he do that? I don’t know why that question even gets asked,” he said.

“I can tell you Paul’s very, very passionate about the job.”

Asked if the Demons were concerned about losing Goodwin to his former club Adelaide, Jackson responded: “Not in the slightest. I’m sure if Adelaide hasn’t spoken to him they probably will because they’ve got to do their due diligence and they’ve got to understand what the contract looks like and where he’s mind is at,” Jackson said.

“I’ve had conversations with Simon and he’s totally committed. He sees the opportunity that is Melbourne, he’s committed to the journey we’re on and I know what the contract is so there’s no opportunity even if Adelaide wanted to push it.”
