MELBOURNE chief executive Peter Jackson has signed on to lead the club for at least one more season.

MELBOURNE chief executive Peter Jackson has signed on to lead the club for at least one more season.

The Herald Sun understands Demons president Glen Bartlett will make the announcement at tonight’s Bluey Truscott Award.

Jackson was recruited by the AFL to help save a club in crisis early in 2013, with his tenure expiring in October this year.

But he has committed to helping coach Paul Roos drag the club back from the brink, staying until at least October 2015 and perhaps longer.

Jackson has spoken of trying to formulate a succession plan to find a new long-term chief executive but at least has turned Melbourne’s finances around.

Bartlett said Jackson was doing an excellent job despite the club’s on-field struggles.

“Peter Jackson has done an outstanding job in the role of CEO of the club and the board is delighted that he will be continuing on in the role,” he said.

“Some important foundations have been laid for our club in the past 18 months and having Peter’s experience and leadership to take us through the next phase of our development is a great result for the club.”

Jackson said the Demons were on the right track despite only four wins this year.

“I’ve always said that it’s important to me to feel like I can make a contribution to the club in a meaningful way and I have a lot of passion to continue building on the work the club has done to date,” he said.

“I look forward to this next phase and believe the Club is well placed to take some important steps forward as we head into 2015.”
