MELBOURNE has breathed a massive sigh of relief with prized youngster Jesse Hogan cleared of a serious foot injury.

The 20-year-old was sent for scans when he was unable to train after his foot was trod on during Thursday’s NAB Challenge loss to Fremantle.

MURPHY TO MISS AGAIN, MICK BACK

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said the club was pleased with the results, but Hogan may miss this weekend’s NAB Challenge fixture against the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat.

“He had scans this morning which cleared him of any significant injury and he will be assessed to be available to play this week,” Mahoney told the AFL website.

Rumours began circling about Hogan’s fitness when he was absent from an open training session on Monday, given he was diagnosed with a back injury in similar circumstances on the eve of the 2014 season.

The power forward is yet to play a senior game in two seasons at Melbourne due to unavailability and injury, but he has put in an otherwise flawless pre-season and remains on track to debut for the club.
