Christian Petracca dealt another injury blow after breaking toe over Christmas
MELBOURNE youngster Christian Petracca has been dealt another injury blow after breaking his toe playing basketball over Christmas.
MELBOURNE young gun Christian Petracca has been dealt another injury blow.
The Demons revealed on Tuesday night, the former No.2 draft pick broke his toe while playing basketball during the Christmas break and will miss four weeks of training.
It’s another blow to the midfielder who missed the entire 2015 season after rupturing his ACL in the pre-season.
The club is adamant the setback will not impact his knee injury recovery.
Petracca has been making good progress in his rehabilitation and was on track to feature in the NAB Challenge.
Demons coach Paul Roos said it was an important lesson for all young footballers.
“Christian’s rehab up until this point has been going really well, but when you’re an AFL player, you need to understand that everything you do impacts your ability to prepare ... and his incident is clearly an interruption,” he told the club website.
“We have been very clear as a club about not putting expectations on our first year players, so its important to keep some perspective about this.
“It’s a harsh lesson for Christian, but one we are sure he is going to learn from as he develops as an AFL player.”
Frustrating time and setback in my goal of playing as soon as I can in 2016. I made a mistake and I'll learn from it. Thanks for the support
