CAMERON Ling has confirmed he had met with Melbourne coach Paul Roos about a role at the Demons.

Clubs are clamouring to sign Geelong premiership captain Ling, who has distinguished himself in a commentary role since retiring as a player.

“I had a quick coffee with a couple of the Melbourne guys, Roosy included, and threw around what was happening from their end and what was happening at my end,” Ling said on Channel Seven.

Melbourne has floated the prospect of Ling serving an apprenticeship under Roos, and then stepping up to the top job.

KANGAS WILL TRY TO RETAIN LING

Ling said he would also consider working at Carlton with Mick Malthouse, despite their SCG run-in over Channel Seven’s coverage on Saturday night.

“Mick was frustrated and a bit agitated and I just calmly said, ‘Mick I’ve got no control over that and don’t speak like that’, and he was fine,” Ling said.

“He said, `I’m not having a go at you’. As soon as he said that it was fine.

“Mick was frustrated about his lack of replays and seeing himself on the screen so often, and he just let those frustrations be known.

“Mick was good enough to give me a call and see if everything was OK and I appreciated that.”
