Brendan McCartney joins Melbourne coaching panel as former Bulldogs coach quickly finds new job
BRENDAN McCartney has joined Melbourne, with the former Bulldogs coach to work in development and in a mentoring role to Simon Goodwin.
FORMER Western Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney has joined Melbourne.
McCartney, who earlier this month resigned his position at Whitten Oval following player disharmony at the Bulldogs, will take up the position of development and strategy coach.
He will be part of the Demons coaching panel and assist Paul Roos. He will help develop the Demons’ youngsters before becoming a mentor for Simon Goodwin — with whom he worked at Essendon — when Roos’ successor takes over as senior coach from 2017.
DECISION: TRENGOVE TO MAKE SURGERY CALL
McCartney will start at Melbourne in February and the Demons are ecstatic to have landed a man so highly regarded in AFL circles.
“We are delighted that Brendan McCartney has agreed to join us in the role of development and strategy coach,” football manager Josh Mahoney said.
NEW COACH: DOGS IN NO RUSH
“He has a proven record and reputation in developing players and his appointment adds valued experience to our development program.
“Adding resources to our development area was a key focus for the club this off-season.”
McCartney joins Brett Allison, Brad Miller and new Casey coach Justin Plapp as part of the Demons’ new-look development team for 2015.
