Aaron vandenBerg could miss rest of season with ankle injury

AARON vandenBerg’s season could be over as Melbourne continues to monitor the young onballer’s injured ankle.

AARON vandenBerg’s season could be over as Melbourne continues to monitor the young onballer’s injured ankle.

The 23-year-old has been ruled out of this Sunday’s clash against the Western Bulldogs after he hurt his ankle at training last Friday.

He missed the Demons’ 35-point loss to North Melbourne on Sunday.

The Demons have listed vandenBerg’s injury as three weeks, meaning he is an outside chance of playing in the final round against Greater Western Sydney.

“He was just doing some one-on-one marking at training and it was a pretty innocuous landing incident with his ankle,” high performance manager Dave Misson told the club’s website.

“The ankle’s pretty sore and it’s pretty swollen, so we’ll just assess it as we go.

“He’ll miss at least a couple of weeks, but we’ll just monitor that over the next few days.”

Vandenberg, who was promoted off the rookie this this year, recently re-signed with the Demons until the end of 2017.

The hard nut has averaged 16.8 disposals and five tackles in 14 games this year.

He played the first 10 games of the season before injuring his hamstring in the Queen’s Birthday clash against Collingwood.
