Luke Parker and Dylan Shiel bury the hatchet after Essendon ‘ruin’ Swans star’s milestone game

Luke Parker’s taunt on Dylan Shiel was the talk of the AFL but the Swans star put that to bed after the Bombers caused a boilover.

Essendon and Dylan Shiel got the last laugh against Luke Parker as the Bombers spoiled the Swans co-captain’s 250th game with a huge upset at the MCG on Saturday.

The Bombers have had a nightmare season so far and were out to make a statement after they were embarrassed by Sydney in their round nine clash earlier this year.

They were thrashed by 58 points on that occasion as Parker made headlines for mocking Shiel’s lack of attack on the football.

But it was a different story in their second meeting as the Bombers rallied from a 26-point deficit against a lacklustre Swans outfit to secure a 15.5 (95) to 12.14 (86) victory.

Jake Stringer turned in a vintage performance to lead the charge for Essendon, but he nearly lost the game for his side when he gave away a 50m penalty late in the last quarter.

But after Buddy Franklin uncharacteristically kicked an easy shot on goal out on the full, the Bombers held on through goals to Kyle Langford and defenders Mason Redman and Nick Hind.

Parker was solid for the Swans with 26 disposals, but Essendon made his milestone game one to forget.

Shiel was relatively quiet with 20 touches but there was a nice moment after the full-time siren when Parker approached Shiel and the pair exchanged a few words and appeared to put any ill will from their previous encounter to bed.

Fox Footy’s Mark Howard said: “Great to see Shiel chatting to Luke Parker as well, congratulations to Luke in game No. 250, although it will be a tough one to swallow.”

The win was just Essendon’s fourth of the year but will finally give their fans something to cheer about amid a dismal season.
