Luckless West Coast Eagles finally catch a break

West Coast has added some firepower to its forward line ahead of its crucial clash with reigning premiers Richmond on Sunday.

West Coast will welcome back come some much-needed firepower for its crucial clash with reigning premiers Richmond.

Dual Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy and young gun Oscar Allen return to the Eagles’ line-up and will provide a major boost for its forward line against the Tigers on Sunday.

Defender Liam Duggan is another important inclusion for the Eagles, while Richmond has named midfielder Kane Lambert and Dion Prestia remains in the side despite a hamstring concern.

The Eagles have struggled for consistency in 2021 and will be desperate to secure a win at home to shore up their spot in the top eight.

Coach Adam Simpson knows they’ll have to be at their best to against Richmond.

“They had 18 of their premiership players playing on the weekend,” Simpson told The West Australian this week.

“They’ve got their soldiers back. They’re missing some key players as well but their brand stands up. They seem to thrive on the big stage.

“We’ll have our work cut out for us. We’re really looking forward to it.”

The news isn’t so good for cross-town rivals Fremantle, who loses captain Nat Fyfe along with a host others for its home game against Gold Coast.

The two-time Brownlow medallist has been ruled out with a shoulder injury, while the Dockers will also be without Griffin Logue, Brennan Cox, Nathan Wilson and Connor Blakely.

In other team news, rising superstar Matt Rowell finally returns from a knee injury for the Gold Coast Suns in a massive boost for the struggling expansion side, who have been without the midfield bull for most of the season.

Round 13 gets underway tonight with Port Adelaide taking on Geelong at the Adelaide Oval.
