Kane Cornes has confirmed he is in a fight with a Footy Show star colleague in news that has fans salivating.

Nathan Brown will get the opportunity of a lifetime to punch Kane Cornes in the face during an exhibition boxing event.

The Former Port Adelaide star confirmed on Wednesday morning he has signed up to fight his Footy Show colleague as part of an amateur boxing card to be held in Adelaide on the eve of AFL’s Gather Round, which opens with an April 4 showdown between the Crows and Demons at Adelaide Oval.

Cornes said on SEN Breakfast the fight will be held at Adelaide 36ers Arena on April 3 and will also feature a fight between Brownlow medallist Dane Swan and Collingwood great Dale Thomas.

Journalist Tom Morris reported on Twitter the AFL wants nothing to do with the event.

According to the report, the fights will involve four rounds in the ring, with each round lasting two minutes.

Anthony Rocca and Corey McKernan will also fight on the card, while former Brisbane star Mitch Robinson will also fight former Richmond star Kayne Pettifer.

Robinson had previously been linked to a potential fight with Tom Bellchambers after the former Essendon ruckman knocked Cameron Mooney out in an exhibition fight last year.

Cornes said on Wednesday an official announcement is expected to be made imminently.

He said he had previously knocked back offers to step into the ring, but was eventually convinced to fight Brown.

“I said no probably 10 times,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“There was one a couple of years ago that I said no to – to fight Nathan Brown and then this one came about and I thought, ‘I appreciate it. It’d be a bit of fun and a good challenge, but no, I’m OK’.

“And they just kept coming back and back and I thought, you know what, it’s a good challenge. I’ve done a few things physically. I cannot box. I’ve never put boxing gloves on hardly in my life apart from when Mark Williams used to make us punch the lights out of each other after we had a bad loss on a Monday morning.

“So I have no idea what I’m doing. This is a good challenge and I’ll probably get it handed to me, but I think I’m up to it.”

He said the pressure of knowing footage of the fight will be revisited on the Sunday Footy Show means there is a lot on the line.

“There was a group text that went on the Sunday Footy Show group that we’ve got,” he said.

“And (Matthew) Lloydy just sent a screenshot of me boxing and said, ‘Gee are you scared Browny?’.”

Cornes went on to say: “I will make myself look like a fool and they (Footy Show colleagues) will be laughing about it for years to come.”
