FULL-TIME: Hawks 143 defeated Melbourne 48

MELBOURNE coach Mark Neeld's fate hangs in the balance after the Demons 95-point capitulation against Hawthorn.

The Demons were comprehensively beaten from start-to-finish unable to contain the Hawks attacking at will.

Melbourne's board will meet tomorrow at noon where it's understood all football positions, including that of Neeld, will be on the agenda.

Stand-in chief executive Peter Jackson will present his recommendations for a restructure of the football department.

Former Melbourne great Gerard Healy last week predicted Neeld had two games to prove his worth.

Healy's brother, Greg, is Melbourne's football director.

Melbourne was outscored 12 goals to one in the first half before a mini fight back in the third quarter.

But it was short lived with the Hawks piling on another seven goals in the final term compared to Melbourne's one.

Hawk Luke Breust was the most dangerous forward on the ground booting five goals while Brad Sewell racked up 31 disposals.

To make matters worse for the Dees, only 28,546 people showed up to watch their home game.

3/4 TIME: Hawks 98 lead Demons 40

WHATEVER Melbourne coach Mark Neeld told his charges at half-time worked a treat with the Demons outscoring a rampant Hawthorn 4.3 to 2.4 in the third quarter.

Chris Dawes started the flurry kicking his first goal on a day the key forward can hold his head up high.

Dawes has 17 disposals and 11 marks to his name.

Jack Watts was next to strike followed by Aaron Davey and Dean Kent to cut the margin to a manageable 58 points at the final change.

Hawk Luke Breust remains the most dangerous forward on the ground kicking three goals from six shots.

Brad Sewell has 24 disposals.

1/2 TIME: Hawks 82 lead Demons 13

IT was always going to be a matter of time and for Hawthorn, it was the second quarter.

The premiership fancies piled on 9.1 in the term to hammer the Dees into submission 12.10 (82) to 1.7 (13) by the main break.

Luke Breust got his radar sorted kicking two second-quarter goals after missing three shots in the opening term.

Brad Sewell and Grant Birchall continued their dominance picking possessions at will as the Demons capitulated at both ends of the ground.

Melbourne threatened to score midway through the quarter peppering the goals only to finish with 1.4 (10).

Jeremy Howe opened the Dees account when he got on the end of a Chris Dawes snap.

Dawes then had an opportunity to kick the Dees second only to miss to the far side.

The Hawks most stats categories including inside50s (+15), disposals (+46) and and contested possessions (+14).

On a brighter note, Melbourne leads clearances, tackles and hit outs.

1/4 TIME: Hawks 27 lead Demons 3

HAWTHORN failed to make Melbourne pay for its slow start booting 3.9 (27) to 0.3 (3) in the first quarter.

Hawk Jordan Lewis drew first blood bouncing a goal through after 10 minutes of play.

The goal sparked the Hawks into action with Brad Hill and Lance Franklin adding goals of their own moments later.

But the Hawks wasted a number of opportunities with Luke Breust (three behinds) the worst offender including a shot after the siren from 30m on a slight angle.

Brad Sewell has had the ball on a string racking up 14 first-quarter disposals while Grant Birchall chimed in with 11 possessions (43 SuperCoach points).

Melbourne tried hard early but broke down in its delivery forward of centre.

Chris Dawes had a shot on goal which he missed while Jack Watts, who has impressed, sprayed a snap from 45m.

PRE-GAME:

HAWTHORN has resisted the temptation to rest key players for today's match against Melbourne.

The Hawks go into the match unchanged with Kyle Cheney as their substitute.

Meanwhile, Demons midfielder Luke Tapscott will also start as the substitute.
