Lions must hunt as pride to cover Daniel Rich's absence for Q Clash

MICHAEL Voss says it will take a "group effort" to replace Daniel Rich and is confident Jared Polec and Ryan Lester can help fill the void.

BRISBANE coach Michael Voss says it will take a "group effort" to replace the suspended Daniel Rich and is confident recalled duo Jared Polec and Ryan Lester can help fill the void in the Q Clash against Gold Coast tomorrow.

The Lions last night named the young midfielders for the Metricon Stadium clash, with Rich and Patrick Karnezis (omitted) making way.

The Suns meanwhile recalled forward Tom Lynch and utility Luke Russell for Aaron Hall (omitted) and Danny Stanley (suspended).

While Voss conceded Rich was a "big loss" for his side given his stellar form in 2012, he backed Polec and Lester to seamlessly slip into Brisbane's midfield group that must contain the likes of Gary Ablett, Michael Rischitelli, Karmichael Hunt and David Swallow in Gold Coast's on-ball division.

"(Rich) has been one of our main guys and copping the load of getting tagged, but at the same time these guys that step in are ready to take the next step," Voss said.

"Jared has his own damaging weapons and Ryan has been showing some signs in the midfield too, but it's going to take a bit of a group effort.

"That's been our main focus the whole year in the midfield, becoming a group of midfielders that are hard to play against it, that attack it together.

"Individuals like Richy may come out and we might lose their unique attributes and unique flair but we still have to be able to work well together and not as isolated players."

Polec, the No.5 draft pick in 2010, will give the Lions genuine run and good ball use while Lester is a good athlete who provides a difficult match-up given he stands at 191cm and is very quick across the ground.

The selection of Lynch for the Suns is no surprise considering he kicked seven goals in the NEAFL last weekend for Gold Coast reserves and could test Brisbane's lack of height in the backline.

With Lynch, Sam Day and utility Jared Brennan floating forward, along with former high jumper Josh Hall, who impressed with two goals on debut last weekend, the Suns have some tall timber who are good targets inside 50.

Lynch kicked two goals in Gold Coast's upset win in round 7 last year.
