Of all the heartbreaking scenes inside the Brisbane Lions dressing room, Lachie Neale’s raw moment with wife Jules might be the hardest one to watch.

It was pure misery inside the Lions’ dressing room after the hugely controversial loss to Collingwood in Saturday’s epic Grand Final.

The pain was written all over the faces of coaches, background staff, players and their families with Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary describing the mood as “shattered”.

Neale was among those seen visibly devastated and was consoled by his wife and mum inside the rooms.

It will hurt so much more for the Lions and their fans with the club leading the game with five minutes to go. They were also on the wrong end of a controversial umpire call that resulted in Zac Bailey being rushed to take advantage when play should have been halted to give Neale a free kick.

It felt more than a little uncomfortable watching footage of the two-time Brownlow medallist be so emotional inside the rooms.

It was left to captain Harris Andews and coach Chris Fagan to speak to the press after the game.

“I’ve got no doubt the boys will be hurting he told reporters in the sheds.

He said during his post match speech before the medal presentations: “To Collingwood, Craig (McRae) and Darcy (Moore), congratulations on a great season. Well done.

“And lastly to our boys, we’ll go again next year. Great effort this year. It is going to steel us again.”

Former captain Dayne Zorko was also visibly emotional after the game and was comforted by partner Talia De Marco.

At least the players had each other to lean on.
