Josh Green kicks on with aim of midfield spot at Lions

JOSH Green will make Brisbane home for the next two years when he puts pen to paper on a contract extension today.

JOSH Green will make Brisbane home for the next two years when he puts pen to paper on a contract extension today.

And the flame-haired Tasmanian intends to settle into a permanent position in the Lions midfield in 2013 and beyond.

The 19-year-old from Clarence played five senior games in 2011 after being drafted with pick No.32 in 2010.

But he announced his arrival to the big time with three goals in the final quarter of Brisbane's stunning upset of West Coast in round 10 this year. Green will line up for his 10th senior appearance of 2012 against Adelaide at the Gabba tomorrow night, hoping to add to his tally of 11 majors for the season.

He inherited the No.6 jumper worn with distinction by club great Luke Power and hopes to emulate the triple premiership winner's career path from the forward pocket to the on-ball division.

Green's blistering pace, safe hands and good decision-making skills in traffic would certainly be welcomed in Brisbane's midfield rotation, but the former Tasmanian under-18 captain is happy to bide his time for now.

"As long as I am in the seniors, I don't mind where I play. I enjoy being there at Brownie's feet, but next year with another pre-season under my belt I'd like to push into the midfield," Green said.

"That's where I think I play my best footy, so that's my ultimate aim to push into the middle of the ground.

"(The West Coast win) was a confidence booster for me, but I still feel like there's a lot of improvement left in me and I've got a lot more to offer the team.

"I'm just trying to improve every week and take something from every game."

Green joins Claye Beams in extending his tenure at the Gabba by two years and said he never considered leaving.

He shares a house with teammates Brent Staker and Patrick Karnezis on Brisbane's southside and is enjoying southeast Queensland's friendly winter climate compared to his home town in southeast Tasmania.

"I didn't think about any other club at all. I'm really happy at Brisbane and I'm settling in, which is great," Green said.

"A lot of the younger guys have extended their contracts already so there's a really exciting group coming through. The club is going in the right direction."

Green is confident the Lions can give the finals-bound Crows a shake at the Gabba tomorrow night.

"We've proven this year that if we play for four quarters and do the right things consistently, we can really push those sorts of sides," he said.
