Jonathon Patton is the forgotten Giant at Greater Western Sydney

JEREMY Cameron's incredible rise to AFL stardom has given the Giants' forgotten man the inspiration to recover from a devastating knee injury.

JEREMY Cameron's incredible rise to AFL stardom has given the Giants' forgotten man the inspiration to recover from a devastating knee injury.

Former No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton is desperate to return to the team to provide the type of one-two forward punch that would make opposition defenders lose sleep.

Like most of the AFL world Patton has watched on and marvelled at the way Cameron has grabbed the attention of everyone in the competition with his talent and football nous.

Sadly for the 20-year-old watching has been about the only thing he's been able to do after knee injuries have limited his output to just 10 games and nine goals in two years. In that time Cameron has played 32 games and kicked 79 goals.

"It's always difficult to watch on when you're injured but what Jeremy has done is nothing short of amazing," Patton told the Daily Telegraph.

"It does make me think where my football would be at if I had of been able to play.

"Seeing what Jeremy does each week gives me confidence that I can do something similar.

"It will be hard to match what he's done but it is exciting to watch him play the way he is and I can't wait to get back next year and help him out, not that he needs much.

"He's really relaxed about his football and very professional."

If Lance Franklin does make the move to the Giants the prospect of seeing the Hawks superstar alongside Cameron and Patton is a tantalising one.

Right now Patton is concentrating on his rehabilitation after rupturing his ACL in the round three match against St Kilda at Manuka Oval.

"It all feels good I'm running in a straight line without pain the next step is to change direction in a few weeks," Patton said.

"It's good to know you will be back on a certain date if you do the right things."

Patton and Cameron are both tied to the Giants until the end of 2015 and the good news for Kevin Sheedy's successor Leon Cameron is Patton is happy in Sydney despite his bad run of injuries.

"I've really enjoyed it and I call Sydney home now not Melbourne and I can see myself being here for a long time," Patton said.

"It's a massive adjustment moving out of home to a new city and learning to be a professional footballer.

"The club has done an amazing job at making us all feel at home.

"The scoreboard hasn't been going our way I'm sure things will turn around for us soon.

"Once we gets some mature bodies around us the same thing that happened to the Gold Coast this year will happen to us."

After pushing Collingwood last week and the Demons' disastrous performance against North Melbourne the Giants will start favourites for the first time ever in tomorrow's match at Skoda Stadium.

"We actually looked like we were an AFL side last week for the first time for a while," Giants coach Kevin Sheedy said.

"We learned a lot from our debacle against the Swans which you will.

"They're beating everybody by five plus goals and they will be among it.

"To come back and play against Essendon and Collingwood and play quality football against finalists that's a standard we have to look at and say we're getting better."
