INJURED Carlton defender Jeremy Laidler is hopeful of making his AFL return in the Blues' Round 14 clash with Hawthorn.

Laidler had surgery after injuring his knee against Essendon in Round 4.

He is set to play in the VFL on Saturday and is eyeing a recall to the senior line-up next weekend, after Carlton's bye.

"I've basically done another pre-season for eight weeks," Laidler told the club's website.
Laidler trained with Andrew Carrazzo, who returned last week after injuring his shoulder in Round 4, during his rehabilitation.

"He (Andrew Carrazzo) pushed me along, which was good," he said.

"Andy's a great runner and I tried to stay with him, which was very tough. I was so rapt for him last week because I know he did everything he possibly could to get himself up to scratch in the AFL.

"I'll definitely be aiming for Hawthorn. It'll be up to the coaching panel and how I go at the weekend, but I'll be trying to put my hand up for sure."
