Jasmine Garner, Ebony Marinoff in frame for seventh All-Australian blazers

The reigning All-Australian captain was a shock omission from a 42-player squad stacked with players from the top four sides.

The top four AFLW sides boast half the names in this year’s All-Australian squad as reigning captain Kate Hore was sensationally left out of the 42-player list.

The Melbourne skipper looms as a likely winner of the Demons’ best and fairest this month but will not earn an All-Australian blazer as a seventh accolade beckons for both Jasmine Garner and Ebony Marinoff.

Hawthorn, who finished second before losing to Brisbane in Sunday’s qualifying final, has a league-high six players named in the squad, including star recruit Eliza West.

None of the six Hawks nominated have previously made the All-Australian side, with Irish forward duo Aileen Gilroy and Aine McDonagh and intercept defender Jenna Richardson the best selection chances.

A serious hamstring injury cost North Melbourne captain Emma Kearney any chance of earning a remarkable nine consecutive selections in the side, but five Kangaroos led by Garner and Ash Riddell could feature when the team is announced at the W Awards on November 25.

Three clubs (Collingwood, GWS and Western Bulldogs) did not have a player named in the squad, while St Kilda, Geelong and West Coast both managed two nominations despite missing the finals.

Melbourne finished ninth with a 6-5 record, but defender Maeve Chaplin was the only Demon recognised after Hore and key defender Tahlia Gillard were overlooked.

Garner, Marinoff and Brisbane captain Breanna Koenen loom as the most likely to receive the captaincy and vice-captaincy honours in the final side.

The All-Australian selection panel had 13 members, including AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon, executive general manager of football Laura Kane and a range of media figures.
