Jaidyn Stephenson ignored after goal confession against Port Adelaide

Collingwood star Jaidyn Stephenson has been ignored by umpires after he appeared to confess to his goal being compromised by a defender.

Collingwood’s Jaidyn Stephenson has been ignored by on-field umpires after he appeared to confess to his goal being touched off the boot during the Magpies’ crucial clash with the Power on Monday night.

Stephenson’s honest reaction to his kick around the body brushing a defender’s hand as it sailed towards the big sticks wasn’t enough to have the play reviewed as the goal umpire awarded the goal despite vocal protests from Power players.

The momentum swung between the two teams throughout the contest before the Power secured the minor premiership with a hard fought 9.7 (61) to 7.3 (45) win.

The Pies again kicked the first two goals of the second half to snatch the lead back in the third quarter after the Power went into the sheds with a nine-point lead at the main break.

Jaidyn Stephenson was hot and cold.

Stephenson’s third-quarter goal delivered the most bizarre and most controversial moment of the game after his snap appeared to be touched off the boot.

Stephenson was also spotted showing teammates that his kick had been touched by a Port defender as Magpies players ran in to celebrate the goal.

Port defenders could also be heard screaming to the umpires that they’d got their finger tips onto the Sherrin.

The fact that Stephenson’s admission went missed by the umpires left footy commentators stunned.

The football gods eventually restored order when Stephenson’s controversial goal was followed by three straight goals to the Power, pushing them to an 18-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Jordan De Goey briefly put the Pies back to within 11-points in the last quarter, but Todd Marshall kicked the match sealer for the Power mid way through the fourth quarter.
