HOGAN’S NEW LANDING SPOT UNCOVERED
Fremantle informed clubs Jesse Hogan was available and they were willing to pay a part of his 2021 salary to help facilitate the deal.
Former Collingwood recruiter Matt Rendell revealed on Wednesday it was the GWS Giants who had emerged as the frontrunner to become Hogan’s new home.
“I believe it’s gonna be a fait accompli. He’s going to GWS, after all that,” he said on Trade Radio.
“It makes a lot of sense if they can get him right, he’s still only a young man, he’s only 26. But if he can get his head right, he can be a good replacement for Cameron.
“The other thing is they might even play him in defence ... as a 16-year-old, 18-year-old, he looked a fantastic defender, so he could easily slip back there as well.
“My strong mail is he’ll end up at GWS, and they’ve got plenty of picks to make that happen.”
HIGGINS’ TIME IS UP IN RICHMOND
Tigers cult hero Jack Higgins has reportedly played his final game for the club.
Reports emerged on Wednesday that the star forward has come to an agreement with the Tigers to find a new club for the 2021 season, despite remaining contracted at the Tigers through to the end of the 2021 season.
The 21-year-old was unable to get back into the Tigers best 22 in the second half of the season and missed the club’s finals run to the premiership.
SEN’s Sam Edmund reported Wednesday morning Higgins has already decided on a move to a rival Melbourne-based club.
Channel 7’s Tom Browne told Triple M on Wednesday St Kilda is his preferred destination.
The Saints will be forced to offer a trade for Higgins, but the Tigers are reportedly happy for him to find a new home and won’t be playing hard ball.
Higgins became a popular cult figure at the Tigers in recent years on the back of his effervescent personality and unique TV interviews.
He was also forced to undergo career-threatening brain surgeries last year after a brain bleed was discovered in the middle of the season.
His return to football was widely celebrated by the Tigers faithful, however, it was revealed earlier this week the club was considering trading him during the 2020 AFL Trade Period.
“Jack Higgins, definitely gettable is the term we throw around at this time of the year, he has been told there’s a chance that he will be traded. He’s got one year to go (on his contract),” Edmund said on Trade Radio earlier this week.
