It keeps getting worse for Collingwood since Eddie McGuire left

Eddie McGuire’s power vacuum is continuing to cause carnage at Collingwood following a drastic move by the team’s lame duck president.

Mark Korda has reportedly stepped down as Collingwood president in yet another moment of turmoil at the top of the football club.

The club is set to move onto a third president in the space of nine months after Eddie McGuire was forced to step down earlier this year as a result of the fallout to the club’s “Do Better” report into findings of systemic racism at the Magpies.

Korda has reportedly folded after a running battle to retain his position following months of jostling by Jeff Browne to take up the top job.

Korda last month announced he would not seek a new term as president when his presidency would become available for discussion at the end of the 2022 season.

That plan is now dead in the water with the club’s directors reportedly preparing to hand Browne the throne.

Foxsports.com.au’s Tom Morris reported the move was to avoid another messy, public squabble ahead of the club’s Annual General Meeting in December where Browne was expected to make another run to oust Korda.

The board of directors will vote on the new president after nominations are submitted on October 15.

The club will also be voting on sweeping changes to the club’s board with several directors standing down, including Bridie O’Donnell.

O’Donnell last month quit the Collingwood board just months after being appointed.

Her arrival on the Collingwood board in May, following the resignation of billionaire businessman and club vice-president Alex Waislitz, created plenty of controversy. It emerged she had been a Collingwood member for less than two years and did not have voting rights.

Then came the social media frenzy when a photo of the former professional cyclist wearing a Western Bulldogs jumper went public, sparking accusations of divided loyalty.

It has been widely reported Korda made his decision in the best interests of the club after the board had become split on his plan to see out his tenure.

In the first year of his reign, Korda helped chart the course out of the Nathan Buckley era and also worked to minimise the Covid-19 pandemic’s financial impact on the club.

Korda also helped to implement the club’s “Do Better” report, which he said remains “a key focus” in the aftermath of the 2021 season.
