‘I was scared’: Kiss scandal explodes again after Brownlow Medal moment

Bec Judd has “broken her silence” on her infamous kiss rejection drama after a meeting at Monday’s Brownlow Medal.

Tony Jones storms off Sunday Footy Show set after infamous footage resurfaces

Rebecca Judd has spilled the beans on a chance meeting she had with Tony Jones behind the scenes at the Brownlow Medal on Monday night.

The businesswoman and TV personality was celebrating 20 years since her husband Chris Judd won the medal as she stole the show with a daring ensemble.

The 41-year-old graced the red carpet for the first time in six years at Crown on Monday night as Carlton’s Patrick Cripps won the medal for a second time.

While Judd turned heads with a trademark J’Aton Couture gown, the one person whose attention she couldn’t get was Jones.

Bec Judd reveals awkward kiss rejection twist

The woman, who was branded “Super WAG”, has laughed off an awkward moment where the pair crossed paths without much being said between them — eight years since the mortifying moment Jones was rejected when leaning in for a kiss live on air.

She told 3AW at Crown Jones had been “scared” to go in for a peck on the cheek.

Jones has regularly been lampooned by Footy Show colleagues over the incident and Sunday Footy Show panellist Matthew Lloyd couldn’t help but bring the subject up again.

“Did TJ try and kiss you hello downstairs,” Lloyd said with a grin.

Judd responded: “He didn’t. I was a bit disappointed. I thought he was going to go in for a crack and I’d make a joke about it. And, do you know what, I think he’s scared to be honest. He looked and he kind of went ugh.”

The Essendon legend went back and asked: “Would you have accepted it.”

Judd enjoyed the drama.

“Well you guys absolutely give it to him on The Sunday Footy Show,” she said.

“I watch it and my kids love it because they just see it replayed so many times. Every Sunday. So I kind of hoped he might do it just so we’d get some more funnies out of it.

“He’s actually scared. He had a look of fear in his eye. So I was a bit disappointed.”

Jones on Tuesday responded with a cheeky video shared by 9NEWS on TikTok where he and sport presenter Clint Stanaway discussed the subject of Judd “breaking her silence”.

“Was I scared last night? Absolutely. Absolutely,” Jones said.

“I thought I’ve got four options here. Plant one again? Hug her? Shake hands? Or just let it go.”

He said he chose to “let it go”.

Pretending to be in tears reliving the trauma, Jones said: “I’m OK. I’m just surprised Bec’s raised it.”

It will no doubt be high on the running sheet being prepared by Footy Show producers for Sunday’s show.

Jones in 2020 famously walked off the set in the middle of filming the live show when the awkward kiss rejection clip was played.

Jones had previously said he was banning the footage from ever being screened on Nine.

“If I see that played one more time at Channel 9, I will walk off the set,” he said on 3AW.

“I do not want to see that kiss again.”

It was brought up again in recent years when cameras filmed the moment Jones and Judd crossed paths at another footy gala event.

Footy Show colleagues analysed Judd’s body language to the Nth degree and said she was “stand-offish”.

Lloyd also stuck the boot in saying Jones “has got no social skills”.

Judd will no doubt be having a giggle on Sunday.

For the record, she had revisited the near kiss previously when asked about it on KIIS FM radio in 2017.

“I just think, where else in any workplace is it OK to annoy somebody in your workplace, so you kiss them?” she said.

“I think I need to run like a little course for AFL players. The ‘Rebecca Judd how to avoid a kiss on live TV’ workshops.

“It’s all about the duck and move, so you duck and move away.”
