‘I want to sincerely apologise’: Why AFL star’s comment scared Swifties

An AFL icon has sent Taylor Swift fans into a frenzy with a single tweet about her Melbourne show, which he has apologised for.

An AFL star has sent Taylor Swift fans into meltdown after revealing he scored tickets to her Melbourne show.

Collingwood ruckman Mason Cox, 32, revealed he will be joining other Swifties at the MCG after managing to get a ticket in Frontier’s pre-sale on Wednesday.

Cox said his friends and brother are “unhealthily obsessed” with Taylor Swift and helped him secure a ticket.

But despite being thrilled at his purchase, the American-born footy icon felt the need to apologise to his fellow fans.

Cox stands at 211cm tall – or six feet 11 inches – making him one of the tallest football players to participate in the sport.

And while his height makes it easy for Magpie supporters to spot the forward on the footy field, it’s not exactly good news for the Taylor Swift fan sitting behind him.

Unbeknown to them, the Melbourne Eras tour ticket holder just paid hundreds of dollars to see a view which includes the back of Cox’s head.

Cox felt the need to apologise to the unlucky fans in advance.

“I want to sincerely apologise in advance for who has tickets behind me at the Taylor Swift concert,” he tweeted, in what started as a humble apology.

“I know you paid a lot but I don’t care. T. Swift is more important.”

The comment sent his Taylor Swift followers into a spin, with many terrified they had scored the unlucky seat behind the star player.

“T. Swift tickets were harder than getting Rich vs Pies Prelim Tix … You already ruined one. Be kind,” one Richmond supporter commented.

“Can you tell us where your seats are so we can be prepared – I’m scared HAHAAH,” another fan begged.

A third said: “At 5 ft tall, I’m really hoping you’re in a different section to me.”

Meanwhile others saw the funny side of Cox’s tweet.

“Get there early and stake a place. Anyone who stands behind you after that, well it‘s on them,” one person said.

“Don‘t forget your glasses big fella,” a second tweeted.

A third joked: “ (Ticketek) should make you enter your height when buying tickets and mark seats behind you (as) restricted view.”

Unfortunately, the person sitting behind Cox won’t be the only disappointed Swiftie, with general admission tickets now sold out across all shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Taylor Swift will be performing her Eras tour in Melbourne at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 16, 17 and 18, before the singer travels to Sydney to perform at Accor Stadium for four nights from Friday February 23, next year.

As for the ticket holder sitting behind Cox, perhaps they may get an autograph or a selfie out of the experience.
