Jack Ginnivan just can’t be stopped.

Collingwood’s Anzac Day hero has proven he’s no one-hit wonder, scoring an early contender for Goal of the Year against the Gold Coast Suns to send the MCG spectators into raptures on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies were leading by 25 points in the second quarter when Ginnivan gathered the footy near the boundary line inside 50. The 19-year-old elegantly wove through three Gold Coast defenders before kicking a snap goal to extend Collingwood’s lead ahead of the halftime break.

“Sunday special to go with Anzac Day,” commentator Anthony Hudson exclaimed on Fox Footy.

“It’s getting better and better for Jack!”

Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall continued: “If I’m Stuart Dew I’m saying please write me down the names of those players who had opportunities to tackle. He just danced through three insipid tackles.

“First one probably the hardest one changing direction, the next two just horrible efforts.”

Former St Kilda star Nick Riewoldt responded: “I’m a glass-half full guy, I’ll celebrate the goal. What a finish.”

ABC sports reporter Paul Johnson tweeted: “Ginnivan! Holy hell that was good. How good is this kid. Amazing goal.”

Ginnivan finished the Round 7 contest with four marks, two tackles, 11 disposals and three goals.

“It was elite today,” he told Fox Footy after the final siren.

“We spread the ground and made them defend really hard.

“The coach will be happy with that.”

Last weekend, the teenager kicked five goals against the Essendon Bombers in front of 84,205 spectators, becoming the first Magpie to score five majors on Anzac Day since Travis Cloke achieved the feat in 2008. He was awarded the Anzac Day medal for his scintillating performance.

Ginnivan has become a surprisingly high-profile player this season following public criticism from former Port Adelaide star and footy pundit Kane Cornes.

The Collingwood forward was accused of being a bit too colourful as he celebrated a Magpies victory against St Kilda in Round 1.

However, Cornes conceded he was wrong on Channel 9’s Sunday Footy Show, backflipping on his comments and dying his hair blonde to commemorate Ginnivan’s Anzac Day performance.

The Magpies ultimately secured a comfortable 17.13 (115) to 14.6 (90) victory over the Suns in Melbourne, with Collingwood forward Brody Mihocek kicking four goals.

Touk Miller was a standout for the Gold Coast, contributing 36 disposals and two goals in the 25-point defeat.

Collingwood will next face the Richmond Tigers at the MCG on Saturday, with the first bounce scheduled for 1.45pm AEST.
