A video of Gold Coast Suns coach Stuart Dew allegedly urinating in public has been released in a reported attempt to deliberately spite him.

In another public relations disaster for the AFL in Queensland, The Courier-Mail first reported video of Dew allegedly urinating outside of a licensed Gold Coast drinking hole has been spreading across cyberspace.

The report claims the video was captured by Gold Coast Suns football department boss Jon Haines and shows Dew urinating on an outside wall at the Miami Tavern on the Gold Coast.

The video is reported to have been captured two years ago and did not result in any official sanction being handed to Dew when Suns CEO Mark Evans was made aware of the footage.

Urinating in public is a criminal offence in Queensland and carries a $533.80 penalty.

The Suns released a statement on Monday evening where it labelled the vision “inappropriate”.

“This is phone footage from two-years ago that was unfortunately shared via a private what’s app group involving a small number of work colleagues. Everyone involved is embarrassed and regrets what happened,” the club said.

“The club was aware of the video and has cautioned the employees about both the behaviour and the filming and distribution of the vision. It was clearly inappropriate.”

The Courier-Mail’s Peter Badel reported Haines sent it to a group of friends on social media before asking for the video to be destroyed the next day.

The video was already spreading across the internet.

The report claims the video was spread further this week by disgruntled former employees at the Suns after the club was forced to make slashing cuts to its football department for the 2021 season.

Former senior assistant coach Dean Solomon was last month among the high profile members of the Suns coaching staff to be informed the club did not have a job available for them beyond the 2020 season.

Solomon was one of five members of the Suns coaching staff to be retrenched on Monday as the AFL announced sweeping redundancies inside its head office and football clubs.

The Suns announced Monday Ashley Prescott, Nick Malceski, Andrew Swallow and Justin Koschitzke were all told they will need to find new clubs at the end of the year.

Dew’s fresh off-field incident comes at a sensitive time for the AFL following repeated poor off-field behaviour from stars found to have breached the game’s strict biosecurity protocols.

In agreement with the Queensland government, AFL players have been held to strict isolation rules since arriving in Queensland.

However, the league has embarrassed the Queensland government with a series of players found to have deliberately broken the rules, including Demons star Harley Bennell over the weekend.

Bennell was on Sunday night hit with a four-match ban and told to leave Queensland as soon as possible.
