Fremantle trade Jesse Hogan to GWS for paltry pick return

A star forward has been sent to his third club in a deal that is within stark contrast to his asking price from less than two years ago.

Fremantle’s Jesse Hogan is off to join his third club in less than three years after the Dockers agreed to trade him to the GWS Giants.

Hogan, initially drafted by Melbourne in 2012, was traded to Fremantle on the final day of the 2018 Trade Period with the Dockers giving up pick 6 and 23.

Only two years on and the club have sent Hogan out the door with only pick 54 coming back in return for the 25-year-old forward.

Hogan failed to make an impact during his time in the West, playing only 19 games for the Dockers which resulted in only 18 goals.

His final season with Melbourne in 2018 saw him kick 47 goals and it’s that sort of form the Giants are hopeful of seeing return.

The cheap return Fremantle received left former Collingwood recruiter Matthew Rendell in disbelief.

“That is unbelievable to think that Jesse Hogan has been traded for pick 54 … just 2 years after he was traded for pick 6 to the Dockers,” Rendell said on AFL Trade Radio.

The move becomes the second of the day for the Giants after they earlier traded Zac Langdon to the West Coast Eagles in exchange for pick 54.

It was the same pick they then shipped to Fremantle to secure Hogan in a move that could see him take the role of Jeremy Cameron if he is to depart.

The Age’s Daniel Cherny reports Hogan has inked a one-year deal with triggers for a second.
