AFL star Jesse Hogan has been fined $8000 by a Western Australian court after breaching quarantine requirements.

The Fremantle forward had his conviction recorded as he was sentenced in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Hogan was last month booted out of his house by police in Perth and sent to a hotel to serve his quarantine after inviting a “female friend” to his house in breach of biosecurity rules.

The Dockers didn’t qualify for the AFL finals this season but players were still serving 14 days in quarantine after finishing their season in Queensland and returning to Western Australia on September 21.

It is alleged the next night, on September 22, Hogan breached quarantine requirements when he allowed a woman to enter his home on two occasions.

Hogan informed the club on Tuesday evening that he had been visited at his home by police in accordance with the WA Government’s quarantine monitoring procedures.

While police were there, Hogan told them he had a female visitor attend his home.

WA Police charged the 25-year-old with two counts of Failure to Comply with a Direction.

According to reports, Hogan’s lawyer Terry Dobson told the court Hogan “hadn’t been with any females in months” as a result of Fremantle’s mid-season relocation to the AFL’s quarantine hub in Queensland.

“He fell into a trap because of the attraction to the young lady ... it was just a lapse in judgment from a fella who’s fairly youthful,” he said, according to watoday.com.

Fremantle chief executive Simon Garlick said in a statement last month: “Our players and staff are all well aware of the restrictions they are all required to comply with while in quarantine and the broader obligation the club has to the community to do so.

“We have worked very closely and effectively with WA police, the State Government and the AFL throughout the year, which provided us with the opportunity to complete our AFL season.

“The co-operation and understanding we have received from all parties during the season is something we do not take for granted. This makes the breach even more disappointing and incredibly frustrating.

“We will wait for Jesse to complete his hotel quarantine before determining what club-imposed sanction he will face.

“In the meantime, we will be reinforcing with all quarantined players and staff the importance of strict adherence to their quarantine protocols.”

Hogan only managed seven games in 2020, his second with the Dockers.

His future is now at the crossroads with speculation the club could look to trade the former Demons star with a year still to run on his contract.
