Fremantle forward Cam McCarthy taken to hospital after collapse at training
Fremantle forward Cam McCarthy has been taken to hospital after collapsing during a non-contact training drill on Wednesday morning.
Fremantle forward Cam McCarthy is in hospital after collapsing during non-contact training on Wednesday morning.
The 25-year-old was taken to hospital in an ambulance and will undergo tests to determine what caused his collapse.
“Cam was training really well with a small group of teammates in a non-contact session this morning when he suddenly collapsed on the ground,” Dockers football boss Peter Bell said in a statement.
“He was immediately assessed by our medical staff and an ambulance was called.
“Cam was subsequently admitted to hospital, where he is undergoing further assessment and tests to determine the possible cause of the collapse and what treatment will be required.”
Bell says the club will provide McCarthy and his family with the necessary care and support and will comment further in due course.

7 News reporter Ryan Daniels confirmed McCarthy had no history of heart murmurs and had been in full training with the club.
McCarthy has played 48 games for the Dockers, and was the club’s leading goal-kicker in the 2017 season.
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir confirmed McCarthy was in “good spirits” after the incident, but provided no additional details about the forward’s condition.
“I’m not a doctor, clearly. It was a doctor’s recommendation that he goes to hospital and gets checked out,” Longmuir told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.
“Our mind is on Cam’s health and wellbeing ... we hope to get recommendations and results over the next day or two.”

McCarthy’s unexpected collapse is reminiscent of St Kilda player Dylan Roberton, who collapsed during a round four game in 2018.
Doctors were unsure of the cause of the defender’s heart rhythm problems that caused his heartbeat to rise to 300 beats per minute at times.
Roberton has only played one AFL game since the incident over two years ago but returned to the Saints line-up in round one this year.
“That first episode was obviously a pretty serious one, but obviously I wasn’t on medication then so there was no sort of control,” Roberton said on Triple M ahead of round one.
“Then I’ve been on medication to sort of balance your heart if it does try to go off and do anything silly, it sort of just regulates your heart and your blood pressure and that sort of thing, so I’m confident that’s gonna keep me healthy.”
