Fans all say same thing as Jack Ginnivan, date walk Brownlow red carpet

The human headline Jack Ginnivan was a somewhat surprising attendee at the AFL’s night of nights - but he certainly caught the eye.

Wherever Jack Ginnivan goes, the cameras follow - and on Monday night all eyes were on the emerging Hawks star as he walked the Brownlow red carpet.

Ginnivan has transformed from a fringe Collingwood player to one of the most talked about names in the game as he played his part in Hawthorn’s rise up the ladder in 2024 after an off-season trade from the Pies.

The 21-year-old couldn’t sniff the AFL’s night of nights while in the black-and-white and some fans were still surprised at his appearance this year.

“How did he get an invite? Are there not really 5 better hawks players this year?” one wrote.

“How did Ginni get an invite surely not in the best 6 at hawks,” wrote another.

“Surely he should be tucked up in bed prepping for this weekend’s game? Oh wait ... thanks Ken,” added another.

In a nod to the youngster’s white jacket, another added: “Is he serving drinks tonight?”

For the record, Ginnivan polled the seventh most votes from Hawthorn, finishing behind teammates Jai Newcombe (24), James Worpel (14), Dylan Moore (nine), Will Day (eight), Massimo D’Ambrosio (five) and James Sicily (four) with three.

But his votes came exactly how he would have liked them - all in a best-on-ground performance against Collingwood in round 19 that went a long way to ensuring the Hawks, and not the Magpies, played finals.

“Ginnivan getting 3 Brownlow votes against Collingwood in the game that sunk their season is just art,” one fan wrote.

Of course there was also plenty of interest in Ginnivan’s date as he delivered what he described on social media as a “soft launch” of his relationship with young model Lily Rose Mitchell.

Mitchell couldn’t be missed in a bronze metallic dress, that featured a halter neck with a triangle style top that had a plunging neckline.

The dress also had a thigh-high split in the front, with the skirt wrapping around her waist, and revived memories of Bec Judd’s famous dress at the 2004 Brownlow.

“Ginnivan’s partner channelling Bec Judd,” a female viewer tweeted.

“Hope someone on the Hawks table has emergency invisible tape. I feel a dress malfunction is on everyone’s bingo cards,” wrote another.

Ginnivan and Mitchell looked relaxed and playful with another as they posed for photos.

She later shared a series of images of her night, including one of the duo sharing a kiss.

Ginnivan is becoming one of the AFL’s most marketable players as fans who support the Hawks - and those who don’t - maintain a fascination with his cheeky approach to the game.

He created several headlines during the finals series, including when he was spotted carrying a beer in the lead-up to a Hawks’ game.

He was also targeted by Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley after the Power eliminated the Hawks from the finals.

Hinkley had taken issue with Ginnivan writing on social media about his plans to be in Sydney to play the preliminary final before Hawthorn’s game against Port.
