Essendon’s Nick Hind comes off second best in brutal goalpost collision

Essendon’s Nick Hind was left feeling worse for wear after running straight into the goalpost during the Bombers’ clash with Melbourne.

Essendon’s Nick Hind was left battered and bruised after he collided heavily with the behind post during the Bombers’ clash with Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday night.

Hind was running back quickly towards goal and looking to handpass the ball through for a behind early in the third quarter.

But he briefly took his eyes off where he was going and he slammed into the behind post and tumbled to the turf.

Rubbing salt into the wound was the fact that his errant handball fell into the hands of Melbourne forward Tom McDonald who kicked an easy goal to extend the Demons’ lead to 10 points.

“Nick Hind may have run hard into that point post and done damage,” commentator Hamish McLachlan said on Channel 7.

“He looks sore too, doesn’t he,” Western Bulldogs great Luke Darcy said.

“So he was running out of time quickly, had to get rid of the football, he thought he’d done enough, McDonald couldn’t believe his luck, had it sent his way,” McLachlan explained.

“Did really well here Nick Hind. He was trying to get that through for a point,” Richmond legend Matthew Richardson said.

“Just a mistake. He knew what he wanted to, unfortunately didn’t execute and he was really disappointed with himself.

“He did all the hard work and just couldn’t quite execute it through for the point,” Richardson said.

“I think it hurt a little more when he saw the goal go through too,” Darcy added.

Bombers fans weren’t happy with the incident and believed Hind was pushed into the post my Melbourne’s Bayley Fritsch.

The running halfback flanker was heavily winded but managed to get to his feet and play out the remainder of the game.

The Bombers will rue their wayward goalkicking in the second half, as Melbourne held on to win by 11 points.

The victory sees the Demons maintain their hold on the top of the AFL ladder with 12 wins.
