ESSENDON'S David Myers says the Bombers' stirring victory over Fremantle in Perth was an important statement.

The Bombers came from behind to defeat the Dockers by 24 Points at Patersons Stadium on Saturday night.

It broke their two-game losing steak.

"I think to be taken seriously later in the year,  you have to be winning on the road," Myers said. " ...Obviously the couple of games before we'd had some pretty tight losses and they're always hard to stomach when you're just shy of getting the four points.

"We knew it was going to be a pretty important game.

"Traveling interstate and Perth in particular, the crowd's against you the whole time. To go over there and play the way we did and come back and get the win, there's no better feeling."

He said coach James Hird praised the side's resilience.

"It obviously just builds confidence within the team to know you can withstand a challenge and be able to rally again," he said.
