The fallout from Taylor Walker’s racism storm and subsequent apology has continued with former Collingwood player Andrew Krakouer delivering a pointed message to ex-Pies president Eddie McGuire.

Walker was stood down for the remainder of the season and handed a $20,000 fine after making a racist remark about SANFL player Robbie Young.

Walker apologised directly to Young in a video posted on the Crows website and promised to educate himself.

However, his apology fell flat for some who believed Walker’s contract should have been torn up, while Crows CEO Tim Silvers refused to assure the veteran of his future at the club.

The scandal saw some powerful television on Tuesday night with Walker’s former teammate Eddie Betts delivering an emotional plea to all Australians to end racism.

On Footy Classified earlier in the week, journalist Caroline Wilson and McGuire had a heated clash. Wilson was critical of Walker’s video apology while McGuire, who was savaged earlier in the year for his response to the report revealing systemic racism at Collingwood, said he had some sympathy for Walker’s situation.

“I’ll tell you what happens: If you apologise, it’s all spin. If you don’t apologise, then you’re recalcitrant. If you apologise too much, then you’re adding mayonnaise to it. There is no answer to this,” McGuire said.

“Trust me about getting up and trying to do the right thing in a press conference and people taking it the wrong way. You (Wilson) said something once where people jumped all over you about disabled athletes. Anyone with any brain could see what you were trying to say and it wasn’t malicious, but you copped a kicking on it. You can sometimes say things where the words come out – it happened with me with Adam Goodes.”

It was these comments that caught the eye of Indigenous star Andrew Krakouer, who played 35 of his 137 AFL games for Collingwood between 2011 and 2013.

The response on Twitter comes after Krakouer told SEN’s AFL Nation earlier this week Walker should be seeking more education.

“People are saying that Taylor (Walker’s) contract should be ripped up, but I don’t think that should be the case,” Krakouer said.

“People make mistakes and I’m certainly one that has done that, you have to give people an opportunity to learn form their mistakes and be better.

“Taylor has a fair way to be able to come back, but he needs to get that support.

“I think someone like (Crows coach) Matthew Nicks is going to be able to give him that support.”
