Former AFL player turned agent Ricky Nixon has been arrested for allegedly posting a series of threats on social media which targeted police.

Nixon was arrested on Thursday morning outside his Port Melbourne apartment after he allegedly posted a slew of threats towards a police officer on his facebook account.

He begged police to be “gentle” as they were handcuffing him, and said he had an injured shoulder, 7NEWS reported.

Nixon was taken into custody so questioning could begin, and it is understood that his defence to police is that his account had been hacked.

The 65-year-old is not a stranger to controversy, as he has been accused of a series of incredulous acts including having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old schoolgirl, selling fake football memorabilia, and kneeing a police officer while facing assault charges in court.

Nixon was also found guilty in June last year for unlawful assault and discharging a missile, after he kicked and punched a postie outside his Port Melbourne home before throwing a package at him on March 10 2022.

However, he celebrated a high-profile career, playing for Carlton, St Kilda and Hawthorn from the 80s till the early 90s, and signing the top players in the AFL to his Club 10 team after becoming an agent in the 1990s.

Victoria Police told NewsWire that the investigation remains ongoing, and said “details about the individual the threats were made against” will not be provided “due to welfare and safety reasons”.

“Police have arrested a man in Port Melbourne this morning, following an alleged threatening social media post,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“The 62-year-old Port Melbourne man was taken into custody where he will be interviewed by detectives.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”
